Description | I don't know |
This map was featured on 2010-10-12
karmap0lice's map archive is always a good source for ungeneric maps. Let's take a look at this one. A cavern? Some zap drones and gauss turrets? A mine corridor at the end? Nothing special.
However, don't trust the thumbnail, copy the level data and load the map! That's the formula to transform an average looking map into an unique adventure. I haven't seen a better use of trap doors in a while. This map supplies the evidence that a simple concept can bring a very enjoyable gameplay.

I find it somewhat ironic
that in your profile you're practically begging for a feature, and then once you get it, you complain. Yeah that sucks that your map didn't get much attention, but it's not like somebody planned for that to happen. If anything, you're decreasing the chances of getting another one with all of this fuss. One of my maps didn't get a few comments one time, so I just kept making maps.

I've been here for two years
and if I get more than 3 rates while my map is on Hot Maps, it's a minor miracle. Mapping is not about the fame (as if any such thing exists on an indie game site). If even one person plays and enjoys your map, you should be happy with that.

Convo began like 2 featured maps ago
Basically i got a featured map, felt like practically nobody saw it, I butthurt, convo ensues. The "newer" authors seem to be agreeing with me and the "older" ones seem to be disagreeing. It's obviously because alot of the "older" authors don't have this problem.
karma: "where did this whole feature conversation begin lol?"
ethel: "(I'm going to continue this conversation from the last featured map because I [sarcasm}love[/sarcasm} conversations about myself). It seems to me you think having a "feature" is something to be eternally greatful about, as though having that tag on your map is a trophy or an oscar blah blah complaining in the wrong place blah blah etc"

Adding to that
I reckon Karma has A LOT better maps in his inventory than this. This is borderline generic personally.
2010-10-12
Argh.
Talk more about the map. D:
2010-10-12
Yeah? Yeah?
Well I think /neither/ side is right. Take that!
2010-10-12
*unknown/forgotten/otherwise special
2010-10-12
I think that both sides are right
The purpose of a feature is to bring unknown maps into the limelight. That doesn't mean, however, that it can't also be a trophy of sorts that is a statement to both the quality of the map and the skill of the mapmaker in general.
If a newbie were to come on this site and see Yahoozy's 22 features, don't you think that person is going to instantly recognize that Yahoozy is considered a good mapper without knowing anything else about him?

Completely agree with Ethel
Also, this map felt like a seriously failed attempt at Maximo map. 1.5^/5 if I could.
2010-10-12
also
same as Zthing... I got some deja vu playing this, but it may be because I use a similar start in one of my old maps

confoundedly brilliant
most innovative use of tiles and objects dronie anyone?
2010-10-12
Agreed with ethel.

I got tired trying to
get past the drones...
Then I thought about it... duh!

Completely Agree with Ethel
Features are designed for the primary purpose of bringing attention to sublime and genius works of N-mapping that have not been recognized by the wider community. Of course features also bring to light those masterpieces that we all know and love, but the primary purpose of the feature is a wonderful thing.
As for the map, I don't think its too special either - Some cool ideas, but it doesn't do it for me in the whole. 3/5

Oh and yeah.
The map is tricky, but uses interesting concepts very well.

I wish to argue against ethel's point.
A feature is pretty much like an oscar - or whatever oscars are for individual films. Films win the awards, but the director is hailed with the acheievement of putting together a masterpiece.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Correct me if I am wrong.
but surely the placing of your map into an elite teir is enough. :/
I don't know why, but I think that's a good thing in this case. The trapdoor usage was really cool. Congratz karma.

This map was amazing.
Absolutely beautiful. I'm glad this got featured karma, from the bottom of my heart.

As for the map...
They were decent concepts, but the entire thing was EXTREMELY messy and just wasn't fun.
2010-10-12
Squibbles...
(I'm going to continue this conversation from the last featured map because I [sarcasm}love[/sarcasm} conversations about myself). It seems to me you think having a "feature" is something to be eternally greatful about, as though having that tag on your map is a trophy or an oscar. But the point of the feature is not a to be a trophy, it's to bring attention to a good (based on the reviewer's opinion) map. Personally, I feel that unless you have a big name you are fundamentally ignored, save for a few active and thoughtful souls, and I'm positive i'm not alone in saying that. Features should be a way to bring attention to unknown mappers as well as classics from renowned mappers. Although i am greatful for having a featured map, what should it mean to me if nobody sees it? And perhaps, as other people have stated, many account-less players have played my map, but then again perhaps not, so why base such a strong opinion on something you don't even know?

good review,
