Featured map for 2016-08-18: drip dro drip by moonwitch

Often I ponder the hole in my roof. I know *drip* the origin of it, bullets ripping through it as I moved to *drip* dodge them. War has *drip* tested my mettle and I have emerged unscathed. *drip* I only hope I survive this final t---

This is what it's like jumping around a war-torn building, dodging the only two robots they sent to kill you. I found this journal entry near the exit. Guess I was more lucky than the last guy. — origami_alligator

Featured map for 2016-08-15: 4th by apakenua

Thumbnail of the map '4th'

I really love to play maps that fulfil my lust for adventure. Maps that lead me on wild chases, or exploring intricate environments that I hadn't noticed before I arrived at them.

I feel like apakenua managed to achieve that in this map. Even from the thumbnail you can tell that this is well designed, yet when I play it I find myself noticing intricacies and nuances within the environment that I hadn't perceived.

4th is a map of superb design both aesthetically and mechanically, and fully worthy of the review I left in the comments 5 years ago. — _destiny^-

Featured map for 2016-07-31: The Plight of Theseus by Aidiera

Thumbnail of the map 'The Plight of Theseus'

Aidiera's [nmaps.net] 'The Plight of Theseus' is a mapmaking gem. It is not too overbearing in its concept to be annoying and yet not too indulgent in it as well to make the map squarely about it; it strikes the chord just right at a fun, open-ended map. Whatever direction you go, you will find something new about this map that you didn't know. — Sunset

Featured map for 2016-07-28: Liquorice: The Heist by miststalker06

Thumbnail of the map 'Liquorice: The Heist'

Liquorice, like most of misty's maps, is incredibly tough — and immensely satisfying. The core mechanic is genius, keeping your adrenaline racing, but forcing you to keep your wits about you. You'll run through the complex on eggshells, courting disaster at every corner. Will you survive the heist? Unlikely. But you're sure to have a damn good time trying. — Tempus_Fugit

Featured map for 2016-07-25: Le Serpent au Diamant by amconline

Thumbnail of the map 'Le Serpent au Diamant'

Oh, amc, what a beautiful map you've map. The aesthetic is stunning — those perfect gold trails, those gently crumbling arches! — and it makes for such a lovely atmosphere. I have a weakness for maps that feel like real places, and there's nowhere I'd love to explore more than these mysterious ruins. — Tempus_Fugit

Featured map for 2016-07-19: Abstract Thoughts by lifdoff

Thumbnail of the map 'Abstract Thoughts'

If ever there were a level for EddyMataGallos to optimize, this fiendishly difficult jumper by lifdoff would have to be a prime candidate. Don't let the minimalist tileset fool you, because, like Lucidium's perennial classic, "Halftone" [nmaps.net], looks can be deceiving. Speaking of deceiving looks, pay no attention to the current 2-star rating this map has, either; this map is a beauty. — ska

Featured map for 2016-06-21: The Private Psychedelic Reel by Brttrx

Thumbnail of the map 'The Private Psychedelic Reel'

When I look back on the years I spent here, and I search back through all the old maps, old authors - Races and puzzles and adventures from another age... I remember everybody. I see their names and I remember my favourites from them. I remember that one time I did a collab and probably pushed my ideas forward too hard, or not enough. I remember eventually feeling like I knew everything about race maps.

I remember Brttrx throwing everything I thought I knew into a furnace. I remember The Private Psychedelic Reel. I remember it opening my eyes.

Featured map for 2016-06-03: Rider of the storm [Nreality] by drikam

Thumbnail of the map 'Rider of the storm [Nreality]'

A simple idea, if used effectively, can produce greatness. drikam's simple idea was "what can you reach?" and he was able to expand it to an entire map. He also threw in the double jump, just for fun. The gold layout forces you to strategically plan out your route around the level, while the drone serves as both a back-up and a cop-out. I also love how he included single-use bounceblocks to keep you on your toes. So go ahead, be a rider, if you dare. — Aidiera

Featured map for 2016-04-27: Wasted Trees by Bl3wolf

Thumbnail of the map 'Wasted Trees'

Tilesets often get overlooked from reviewers, which is somewhat of a shame. I actually found this map by searching 'wasteland' into the search box, as I believe this term is perhaps the best simile to describe Numa's current state of affairs. The level from Bl3wolf is more than just a well-crafted tileset, however, as EddyMataGallos' blistering demo shows. — ska

Featured map for 2016-04-04: 7-3 Fourth by koipen

I'm sorry. I was hired because I have a way with words which allures and entertains you. My job is to share high-quality maps and talk about the gameplay mechanics, aesthetic designs and interesting concepts. Here we are, me rendered speechless, you feeling disinterested. As it stands, this barely makes the cut, lengthwise. But today's 4-4, and I felt obligated to feature this. I like this, and I hope you do as well. — Aidiera
