Featured map for 2015-07-03: systems 1 by apse
I was always fascinated with maps that made me feel like I was working my way through somewhere, whether it seems like a dense forest or a concrete jungle. apse [nmaps.net]'s map "systems 1", to me, is one of those maps. It is one of the most left-of-center maps I've ever seen and played, looking as if somebody just spammed doors down, and yet plays like every jump was perfectly planned. Maneuvering through it is a process that requires you to think through every move you make. — Sunset
Featured map for 2015-07-01: Absentmined by miststalker06
miststalker06: hated, envied, and admired. He has given us this map, not to play, but to think about. Sure, it's not technically impossible, but only the pros dare to go when few ninja have gone before. Soak in the beautiful atmosphere, give it a few tries, but the joy lies in its immaculate intricacy. This sovereign masterpiece, a tribute to dedicated perfectionists, will live on, but your ninja will not. (Good thing you have a bazillion more of them.)
miststalker loves his FBF, and we love him. Enjoy.

Featured map for 2015-06-29: freebirds by cactae
Most people can make a decent map when having a good concept to base it on, and such maps deserve praise, even if the concept is not executed to perfection.
But it is a lot harder to make a map that seamlessly blends different concepts, styles and enemies into one entity that feels cohesive, plays well and looks amazing, but this map is certainly one of those select few. There's rockets, drones, thwumps – curves, slants, corners – one-ways, doors, bounce-blocks – really, the only common thread here is that every aspect of this map is brilliant.

Featured map for 2015-06-27: holding light in my hand by DaggaFork
holding light in my hand
carried for miles to end up here
beside the muddy road
under the wet gray sky.
holding light in my hand
but it slips through my fingers
inevitably.
my hands now empty
the yellow carnations shine
like sun through the shadows
beneath an unmarked grave.

Featured map for 2015-06-24: serial 5: contractors w/similar densities by Onesevennine
In truth, you drew too hard. And your arrow glanced past, went on. Igniting forests, tunnelling mountains, razing cities. Splitting hairs. One year later and it's circled the world. It closes in on the place it first began. Drop your bow, raise your arm. Don't look back, don't look ahead. Just look at me. And for fuck's sake, catch it. — zoasBE
Featured map for 2015-06-22: Crush Like Rivers by RandomDigits
There have been many mappers heralded for their command of the aesthetic aspect of the game we all know and love – Pheidippides, atob, Yahoozy, just to name a few. Curiously, RandomDigits is seldom mentioned in this category, but one only needs to take a glance at this map to understand that this is inexcusable.
Using a tile style that is undeniable his own, he makes a desolate cliff-scape and the lone trees, standing defiant against time and tide, come to life. Combine that with sublime gameplay and superb enemy placement, and you've got yourself a real winner here.

Featured map for 2015-06-20: Vivian & Ondine by maxson924
“Hey,” said Vivian, “has it been about 10 seconds since we looked at our lemon tree?”
“It has been about 10 seconds since we looked at our lemon tree” replied Ondine.
They turned around, and to their dismay a ninja had snuck into the yard.
“Hey, what the thwump!” Ondine shouted at the intruder.
“It’s a ninja!”
“It’s a ninja stealing our lemons!”

Featured map for 2015-06-16: Melt by lord_day
Atmosphere – that little thing that separates the great maps from the classics – is what sets this map apart.
The cavernous layout, a hybrid of natural and man-made textures, the relaxed gameplay that allows or even encourages exploration and curiosity instead of blistering speeds and mind-bending tricks, the sparse gold... it all serves to create a map that you can beat in less than five minutes and that will still have you playing for hours.
Other lord_day maps may be more creative, more innovative or more challenging, but when it comes to atmosphere, Melt stands high above them all.

Featured map for 2015-06-15: Ex Flammis Orior by da_guru
Illumination inside of you
Simplicity is in all we do
Like a landslide falling beneath you
Look to the future is all we can do
Like a phoenix rising in the sky
We will run into the morning light
Highly recommended by someone
With an inclination to enjoy
Misinterpret such a simple life
With one eye to satisfy
Like a phoenix rising in the sky
We will run into the morning light
Like a phoenix rising in the sky
We will run into the morning light
Like a phoenix rising in the sky
We will run into the morning light
