Featured map for 2015-12-26: I MADE A MAP by woutery

Thumbnail of the map 'I MADE A MAP'

Woutery made a map! Run, jump and climb through this map’s incredibly fun challenges. Woutery has put together a perfect combination of enemies to fill the space between his blocky, craggy tiles. Utilizing tile slopes, one ways and launchpads, traversing this map is flowy, intuitive and exciting. The rocket and gauss will be hot on your tail, but if you’re quick enough you can make it out with some of that delightful gold. — script

Featured map for 2015-12-25: Saxaphony by DaggaFork

Thumbnail of the map 'Saxaphony'

Let’s have something chill for Christmas, something cool and collected. A map as pure and simple and beautiful as fresh-fallen snow. As crisp as alpine air, as sharp as the tang of fir trees. Let’s bask under the northern stars, so rich, so tantalizing, so close we could almost reach out and pull them from the sky….

Happy holidays, folks.

Featured map for 2015-12-23: 188-4: Paternoster (aka No Mother Thumping Impossible II) by Chrdrenkmann

Thumbnail of the map '188-4: Paternoster (aka No Mother Thumping Impossible II)'

I believe that Chrdrenkmann is one of the more under-appreciated mappers in our community. With less than 1 in 200 of his maps being featured, I thought I'd turn your attention to this gem that he made just over a year ago. An episodic delight, its design shines best when you go for a highscore, as exemplified by Eddy's slick highscore run. — ska

Featured map for 2015-12-21: all i want is you by Sunset

Thumbnail of the map 'all i want is you'

I'm constantly amazed how fresh and innovative maps still get. You'd think that by now, all the cool ideas have been done to death already, but then along comes a guy like Sunset and suddenly you're like „Damn. I know that Mare and Raigan never intended for that to happen, and the game is so much better for it anyway.“

Other mappers might make more aesthetically pleasing or more refined and polished maps, but when it comes to creativity, Sunset is the undisputed standardbearer of mapping nowadays, and he's damn good at it as well. — lifdoff

Featured map for 2015-12-19: Cavern 5: The Long Journey by anyone

Thumbnail of the map 'Cavern 5: The Long Journey'

“What’s this? Looks like a map anyone could have made,“ I hear you saying (sorry, had to do that). But wait, there’s more! In nearly all new maps we play we tend to forget one of the main principles of the game: The 90-second lifespan provided for our little ninja. This map features a great variety of little challenges that are perfectly timed and it takes me back to when I first played the original Metanet episodes and worried about running out of time. Oh, memories. — macrohenry

Featured map for 2015-12-18: ingress by apse

Thumbnail of the map 'ingress'

I could wander around this map for days and never get bored. It’s an explorer’s dream: Wending tunnels, curious crevasses, deadly traps, secret passageways, and a lifetime supply of excitement. The gorgeous tiles and ambience are backed up by some very clever mechanics; deft fingers might get you out alive, but it’ll take some serious cerebration to grab all the gold. Highly recommended for all aspiring adventurers.

“Yes! I love it!” – krusch
Tigerclimb by Yahoozy really does give off a krusch-like vibe, with its snazzy symmetrical tileset and thoughtful spacing of enemies and gold. There is something here for everyone to enjoy—whether you’re a novice or a seasoned highscorer, looking to forge a path through to the finish is a very satisfying experience indeed. — ska

As you may have noticed, NUMA is back. (Yay!)

This obviously demands celebration, and what better celebration than a new feature?

But what map could be worthy of such a momentous occasion? I went through my favourite puzzles, action maps, jumpers – and then I found this.

Imitating someone else is hard, meshing your own and someone else's style is harder, and doing it all with such an intricate and complex map is nothing short of amazing, yet Aidiera does it with ease.

NUMA is back – let's hope that maps of this quality will continue to come with that. — lifdoff

What if you lost your ability to wall-jump?
What if you lost your ability to submit your creativity?
What if you lost your ability to care?

He we are, abandoned by indifference and apathy.
Nick, if you can hear us, please send help.

I suppose this day had to come eventually. Thanks for the memories. — ska

Featured map for 2015-10-11: Guarded Ruins by Nexx

Thumbnail of the map 'Guarded Ruins'

Most mappers on NUMA rarely venture outside their comfort zone, and I'd include myself in that description. That's not a bad thing in itself, but it does make it all the rarer when you encounter a mapper like Nexx, whose output is as diverse as can be. NReality, image maps, puzzles, action maps, gorgeous tiles – he does it all, and he does it well.

And yet, it's his simple, atmospheric maps that I come back to the most. This map is laid-back, open, easy to play, but it's enjoyable through and through, and that's more than enough for me. — lifdoff
