Try mapping like once a month if nothing else works. It kinda forces you to think about what you're doing.

Took me like five years of trying, beating the game, and playing 300 atob maps before I learned a thing. Also the better part of a year-and-a-half break ruminating under a waterfall with a whippoorwill.

It's a bit tedious

But mapmaking is all about progression =) About getting better at mapping and there's only one way :p Some get there fast others take long (I myself belong to the latter)..
