One more thing.
About enemies:
A lot of times enemies work well when they are working in conjunction with other enemies. Mines obviously go with every enemy type, but there are some good enemy types that you can put to good use in a large space. These include:
Rocket/Gauss Turrets: This is probably one of the most common enemy combinations. They are enemies that compliment each other well because they both originate from a single area and force the ninja to be constantly moving.
Gauss Turrets/Zap Drones: This enemy combo can provide a great level of difficulty when used correctly. Make sure that drone paths are well made by developing a tileset in which they move around in well. Gauss turrets can be used in conjunction with the zap drones or elsewhere in the map. Both enemies require dodging in similar ways even though one enemy is stationary and the others are mobile.
There are a few other good combos but those should help a little. Don't use these too much though. The point of this comment is to help you start using enemies together rather than split up separately around the map.

too blocky
There are some nice things in here that just didn't work out, mostly because of the tileset. Work on more open maps. Try and make something out of tiles like a crab or a balloon or something. Have a focus and a theme.
