Description Do you map for yourself or do you map for other people?

I've always mapped for other people, and not by conscious decision, it's just how I am, I guess. And I don't mean that I put a mine at specific coordinates because I know someone specific will like it. I mean that I make maps with the vision that other people will play it. I look forward to the feedback, I look forward to the discussion, I look forward to the demos. There's nothing quite like making that one map that gets that incredible excitement from everyone.

This doesn't make me value my maps that get little or no recognition any less. I made them, and I posted them because I thought they had something to offer. Whether it be a fun map, an interesting map, or just a map that I spent a long time on, I wouldn't post maps unless I thought they were worth something. So in that sense I map for myself, since I critique my own maps enough to know whether or not they belong on the site.

Recently, (in the last year or more) I post the extreme majority of maps that I finish creating. Some maps I leave unfinished, whether it be lack of focus, inspiration, or time I just don't finish them. Of the maps I do end up finishing, they go on the site. I don't make enough maps to filter out all the duds, and I don't spend the time on mapping I do to make maps that I think are duds. So by now I feel as if I only create maps that I like. Does that mean that I post all my bad maps? Maybe. It definitely means that I like all of the maps I create, because if I don't like them I either stop making them or just don't start.

This map is a minejumper because I wanted to make a minejumper.
This map is hard because I wanted to make a hard map.
I made this map because I wanted to make this map.
This map is not for anyone else.

Ned is my outlet for all creative energy I have, so I guess I do it for myself , but I like when people like my stuff so I don't know.

Oh, I definitely also just map

for the heck of it. If I'm even slightly bored I open the game and start mapping, and there are probably hundreds of maps a year that I throw out within minutes.

I just sort of map.

It's an impulse for me. Not sure if that means I map for myself, but I usually don't think much about what people will think of the map if that says anything.
