Now I got what you mean,

but sorry, it's hard after hundreds and hundreds of 3x3s do something innovative and interesting containing ALL objects and enemies inside the 3x3 area. The space and the use of those is really limited, and at the end of the course all would be the same, this is the only way to do new things. I assure you right here that the playable area will be always 3x3, but inevitably, many of the objects or enemies in some cases must be outside, thus, to interact and deliver new game modes and interesting and not-repetitive stuff. Anyway, I'll try and I'll do my best. ;)

Anyhow,

this one it is one of my own top favorites.
I never even imagined myself I would be able to continue to have interesting and fresh ideas, semi conceptual, puzzleish or with hints after and over 250 3x3s. Never before had done one like this, and better, the ones to come... ;)

but I think this is actually a 3x3 only as a playable area. Well, 3.25x3.25 if you count that some golds are outside the 3x3 one-ways square. The whole area is obviously bigger but it's just as it is to be able to offer that particular gameplay with drones. Really do not understand what you mean with "smaller" because this is actually a 3x3? Or it is not for you?
