a lot of things dont make sense [en.wikipedia.org], such as why this painting is worth 161 million dollars compared to something that may have taken much more skill to create.

often things are enjoyed because people enjoy the people who created it, such as pop music, in some opinions, gets worse and worse as a musician moves away from their original "hit", but people will still listen to that guy/girl because they either still believe they have good music coming, or want to have the same experience they had when they first heard that amazing hit

not saying that palemoon's maps are getting worse because that would be mean and stuff. im just saying that since palemoon has proven that he can make incredible maps so consistantly he has become one of those really well known authors that people can always go to. lets say this map (it isn't) is one of his bad ones, as you want to think, people who still are loving everything palemoon has created will like it just because of the author (this isn't true, this map is amazing).

so no matter what happens, unless over a considerable amount of time of palemoon posting legitimate garbage, people will still say his maps are good. its a trend, and its just human nature, I guess.

so enjoy the map or don't enjoy it. and of course you want to say that you didn't enjoy it because of exactly what you've commented here, but next time you should tell him what you think is bad about it, maybe whats good, and some constructive criticism. and maybe approach it in a nicer way than What's so special about these maps?

:)
so i'm not gonna keep talking about this but thanks for playing everybody :D

I'm kind of a troll

but thats when i go posting inapropriate stuff on forums.

I just don't see some special things in some maps - some people are saying "OMG GREAT MECHANICS AND PLACEMENT!!!" yet all i see is just a rocket launcher. It's not like everyone's designing a game, you're designing levels, it's just not that special to me.

This reminds me of a track someone made for a different game. He was a track master at the game, and released a super awful map. And then he said he thought out everything of the map, including the randomness... it just doesn't make sense to me.

AGD

that climb up was fun, and trickyyy. not as big on the gauss room. Getting the gold felt mostly awkward in a not so enjoyable way. solid map.

cool

if my maps didn't have an agd route, they wouldn't exist.

i keep seeing tash

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100222084326/narnia/images/9/97/Tash_and_Rishda.jpg

also sort of a t-rex

Although that Viking drumstick looks delicious! Well done with tiles as always.

And I was not talking to you personally, Tempus. Only talking about the additional gold challenges and multi Exits thing.
And sorry for overlooking my own Step 3, initially I thought that woutery was trolling a bit here, but at the end he seems serious and I just wanted to explain a couple of things. That's why I said I was done, because I feel myself explaining pretty basic and stupidly N things.

On the other hand I want to clarify that I'm not saying that this map it is outstandly awesome, although PALEMOON is my most favorite mapper ever, just this map it is not my cake neither, I think he has much greater stuff. I was just approving, defending and argumenting the arrangement and organization in this map.

And finally, I don't think any of these comments are spam, just people giving its own opinions, something that would be interesting in other maps. Anyway, I'm sorry if my comments were looked as spam.

I love how you keep citing my totally sarcastic remark.

Also, palemoon -- my apologies that your map is getting spammed with contention. It's a damn fine map, and you're a damn fine person. It shouldn't be sullied so.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. Although I think we should kind of ignore some of the things woutery says, on a couple maps he's posted "I don't see anything special here", "hard here", "interesting here". Maybe its a phase.

And you are wrong woutery, the additional gold challenge with the top Exit it is not boring, if not challenging and rewarding when being able to reach it. And please read my previous comment and try to understand. I'm done.

In fact,

This map denotes great knowledge and good plan, and let me I'll try to explain:

Having a multi exit here offers severals gameplay possibilities. If he was opted, wrongly, for only having the top exit to force the player to go around the whole map, the SR route/gameplay would be ruined. As well only having the bottom exit, because the 7 extra pieces (14 seconds / 560 frames of difference) would be not worthwhile due the climb and the later back again. So, you maybe can suggest not having the blocked door, but that would be worse too, just with it there offer a twist more to the map. Because you had three different kind of gameplays, SR - only going to bottom exit as fast as possible without care with golds, AGD-7 - collecting every piece just to the bottom exit, and finally HS, collecting every gold piece in the map just to the top exit and having to reach it under 560 frames of difference from the AGD-7.

So, with these statements, just having the map like it is, with the multi exit thing I can prove that it offers a much richer and greater gameplay experience than a normal map, leaving to the player the decission of what degree of complicity and experience desired. So,
not

i was trying to explain my point

or you just take an easy challenge to finish the map

or you do some random almost impossible stuff to agd it

i also meant what tempus said - place the gold along the route, not as some boring extra challenge

I believe my snark has been misinterpreted.

And no, woutery -- there's great potential for speedrun competition in this map, but none at all in your example.

Also,

Groups of gold as additional challenges (which are worth for a highscore) are the sauce in this game. And offer to the player on a map the choice of how far to go and how hard he want the gaming experience with the map, is something remarkable and valuable in the artistic and mapping process. So, imo, well done PALEMOON.

You seriously are comparing this Burn My Brain map with your afasdfasd map?
You make me laugh woutery.

What tempus said.

BTW, @dagga i get your point with that map, BUT - currently on Burn My Brain it works like this [nmaps.net] which isn't exactly cool.

Again, what tempus said.

You know dagga you could've posted the original one which originated the concept.

There is a reason for having two exits as a possibility in the N map creator. So that people can create extra challenges. Take this [nmaps.net] map for example. It's one of the classic amazing minejumpers that everyone loves, and the reason it's so original is because you have the ability to stop at the first door, or you can take the extra challenge (remember, this is a game and it's about having fun) and go to the next door, or the next door, or all the way to the end. We wouldn't play N if it was not fun, and if it was no challenge. So we make challenges for ourselves, and the challenge demonstrated here was: would you rather cheap out on the bottom exit (/speedrun), or challenge yourself to the almighty AGD, SEVEN extra pieces of gold, at the price of the difficult climb. It's your choice, have at it.

So uh --

Yeah. It seems that you only put in gold as an additional challenge, palemoon. Very strange thing to do -- you need to place it in the path of the optimal speedrun, or no one will ever bother going for it. People resent maps that offer a challenge for people with differing levels of talent.
why don't you just run into the bottom exit thoughtfully provided for you to do exactly that? i don't see what your complaint is

zoasBE,

Step 4: let people have an opinion about maps. I'm not a fan of some maps.

@pale

I don't think everyone wants to AGD a map...

There don't seem to be a lot of details here (to me), or just not yet. If you want to incorporate the details, remove the bottom exit. It would make for a way more solid route IMO.

PALEMOON,

Step 3: Ignore woutery.

woutery:

it's basic N gameplay mechanics. Do you want to get an AGD? then climb up the first part of the map, making a more difficult playthrough. i understand if oyu want to take the easy route and forget about the details though. thanks for playing.
Whow, an easy map with gold. I don't see why maps should be about collecting gold, they should have a route and it should be easy when just wanting to do the map, and hard when you want the gold. Not some random map where you're constantly attacked on the non-existant route.

I just think it's random - why would i want to open the door and get the exit there? There's no point if i can just take the exit on the bottom. Or i'd go up very slowly whilst getting attacked by a rocket, or i'd just escape the rocket and just run to the bottom exit without anything being hard at all.

Just... well... the tiles seem fine though.

On the contrary, I loved the gold placement.

AGD

I didn't like the gold placement to much, but I had fun.
