Andreas
I hope you do not mean the 1-tile as in the 45° tile. I love that tile, I even made a race about that tile.
How ever, you are absolutely right about the aesthetics (I just copy / pasted that) part.

as b3njamin said, you understand the basics of a good race...
some more advanced tips to make your races perfect would be to:
1. Make it unpredictable. By that i mean to make it so you can't, just by looking at the thumb, point out the route. it makes it more fun to play.
2. Avoid the loops. typical beginner mistake, wich i made to when i first started out making races.
3. Avoid, as much as possible, 1-tile jumps. now this is maybe a more personal thing, but it still helps in making more flowy races. try looking at the lowest, far-left loop. you can see in my demo i have a hard time hitting that single tile, to making perfectly around the loop.
4. Aesthetics. A word I have to troubles with. Spelling it, and understand the meaning of. Aesthetics is the over all look of a map. it's what makes people think: Hey! That looks nice, i wanna try that!
5. Less is more. as i said on your last race ;)

Death demo.
I got stuck on that bit once or twice. An improvement over your first for sure... still pretty average though. Also, I personally didn't mind the stacked lasers, though it is generally annoying, but you can NaN the laser's data to make it unmoving instead of using doors. I'll explain tomorrow when I'm not tired or someone else can in the meantime.

Well
You seem to know the basics. But it (ofcourse) lacks finesse.
I personnally hate the beginning because I hate to jump immediately.
Don't stack enemies (the lasers)
Try to find the flow other than loops.
Other then that, you seem to understand the basics. Just practise, look at other races etc.
This really reminds me to my first race.
