for you I would recomend
#n-highscores. to join it just type in /join #n-highscores in the msg box
I use mirc, simple and easy. install it then run it. it'll say after a 30 day trial you will have to pay money. that's false, no money is required after said trial. just click start then go to options and server. add mountai.net as a server with port 6667. then click ok and connect. after your connected you can join different channels among other things, just read the main page it describes your options.
