Map Data

Description to me why it seems like only the "big" names or reviewers get all the ratings and comments...honestly what it is the best way for people to get there name out there other than for the big guys to rate the maps of the little guys...I mean only if the map is very bad and spams objects or it is done by someone who has been here for years does it get any attention...don't get me wrong yes they deserve ratings too but don't skip over the little guys. I have plenty of decent maps as well as many other mappers but they get brushed under the carpet by a few big names...so please take the time to rate others maps. And rate a 5 if you agree and a 0 if you disagree.

What Maxson said

Enter contests on the forums, RCE, stuff like that. I'm willing to check out newbie's maps, and I know maxson just about always does :D
If you haven't been noticed by then, your maps haven't improved. This is of course assuming that you are active in the community, make friends, understand references, create bonds, and generally strive to be made aware of.

Mapping will always be the most important thing to the community, though, so if you want people to like even minor aspects of your maps, draw attention to yourself. Just keep making maps and keep enjoying it and you'll eventually become popular.

I didn't know who Maxson was until he became a reviewer. Do something cool like that.

Its really quite simple. Just strive to succeed and give it time.

This

Is the most comments I have ever gotten on a map...isn't that sad lol
IT'S SO DISAPPOINTING TO FINALLY GET A COMMENT ON A MAP THAT JUST SAYS "Woah dude creepy avvie."
it'll get you some attention when you comment. it still works for me ;D

I've found that

a good way to get recognition is to (like maxson said) to join some competitions and become more active on places like the forums and IRC. At least, it kind of worked for me. Kind of.
lol grammar fail XD

o_O

dammit

it's one of the first topic on this page [forum.therealn.com]. hopefully that works
I mean that as long as you stay unfamiliar, your maps will likely get less attention than the names who are. If you make yourself known, that's the way to beat it. I myself am working on that, in fact.

it says

topic does not exist

i try

to fix that by every so often going down the hot list of maps and rating every single one of them, ignoring the name. It is very helpful for the self-esteem of the "noobs" (no offence is ment by that word)

in other words

the whole "it can't be helped" is bullshit. be proactive!

well, first of all

saying "rate 5 if you agree and rate 0 if you disagree" is basically asking people to anti-snipe your map since obviously nearly everyone's going to agree. but i'll just ignore that and get to the rest of my comment:

when i first came to numa, i made sure to get as involved as possible and talk to other people here, RCE'ing their maps, etc. then someone told me to get on the forums, and i did, and joined a few mapmaking contests with the bigger names; i guess that's how i first made my name not totally unknown :P other than that, even if you only get one or two comments, use the advice from those comments to get better. it's a gradual process; it won't just suddenly happen. you just have to be patient and do what you can.
...that's life. Just keep making maps for you, post 'em up here so a few other people might have the chance to enjoy it, and don't worry about it too much. Occasionally when you may make what you feel is a very good map and it goes unnoticed it can be fairly annoying, but whatever, like Technochocolate said, it can't be helped.
as old as NUMA, I would assume. People who want to relax with a nice map, they don't want to risk wasting their time with a dumb map by some new guy (I'm not referring to you in any way), they'll play it safe and look for a familiar name who will never disappoint them. There's no getting around it, I'm afraid.

oh my god

I completly agree...I feel that you have to be a person who can feature a map or no one cares who you are or how great your map is...5/5
