Description | The Pythagoras' theorem is the geometrical theorem that states that in any right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the two shorter sides. This theorem is named after the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras of the 4th century BC. For a given right-angled triangle in which the sides are x and y units long, the hypotenuse (h) can be obtained from h2=x2+y2. Pythagoras' theorem provides a method of calculating the length of any side of a right-angled triangle if the lengths of the other two sides are known. |
