If I were you, I'd just keep making maps, because you're obviously somewhat successful. Part of the feedback process is choosing what feedback to take into consideration and what feedback to ignore; just because someone says your mapping style is crap doesn't mean it is. It just means that they have an opinion, and they have an absolute right to it. But just because it's their opinion doesn't make it crap.
