Description I was having a little think about music earlier today. I realised that I consider rap music in its lowest form. Whatever happened to The Kinks, The Beatles, Small Faces? Great bands forgotten in the wiggers' lust for grime. The definition of R&B is stunted. Rhythm and Blues. Now it's Rhymes and Beats, or at least it seems to be. Classic R&B is forgotten, lost. The Who were an R&B band, the mods. Who can forget the mods? The most inspirational youth culture the world has ever seen. Forgotten because of this new generation of cunts and chavs. I say, fuck diversity. I don't want to listen to some screaming faggot talking about how he slit his wrist. Fuck. People say it's good, because we have varied taste and it isn't boring. In a sense, they're right. If everybody listened to the same thing, music would be pretty dead. Deaded. But, all this shit, people forget old rap like The Beastie Boys. COME THE FUCK ON. OPEN YOUR EYES. You got to broaden your music tastes. I don't like Bob Dylan but All Along the Watchtower is a fucking CRACKER. I love soul music. I love a bit of gospel. I just want youths to lighten up and listen to some good music.

See, alot of my friends are very racist. You know why? They're getting fed up. All these white kids who think they're black, sucking their lips, wearing hoodies and dipsies. Because they are influenced by black music. Everywhere they go, they see black. Don't get me wrong, none of us have anything against black people. My circle of friends is slowly diminishing as more and more of them are going from mod to chav. I'm fucking angry, because I used to be a figure of influence; somebody who was different, had swagger, played lots of instruments, can sing, write songs. It's all going because the taste has changed SO MUCH in this last year. It's gotten worse, too. I wouldn't write all of this if I didn't mean it. Music should come from the heart. If you want to write songs about your background, FINE. Don't go flaunting about whores and guns because people ARE influenced by music. I love music, I want to do it for a living. That is my choice. But it is becoming harder, because alot of people want it for money, fame, and women/men. FUCK OFF. I don't care about any of that. Sure, I suppose money and women would be nice, but I'm happy to just be doing a pub circuit. Don't do something if you don't mean it.

Reading this, I hope you'll go out and listen to some different music. Try to vary what you listen to, and not just stick to a certain couple of genres. See how my point changes as I write it. I go from hating diversity to loving it, because it offers so many different opportunities and ways to make music. If you love music, you will do this. Hell, I can even appreciate a bit of folk. Imagine that. Me. A mod. Anyways, have fun with your music, as long as it means something to you. :)

Hmm.

Ok. I thought you were taking the piss. I'll have a listen and get back to you.
I was seriously trying to give you some recommendations

It defo is toasters

,no reply SMC? What's the problem, too much of a MOD?

Ha!

I just found that Sufjan mash-up recently. Cool stuff eh?

agd demo:

My type of music is kind of random... its disco + anythingelse. i mean anything... from country to rap.

i dont care for most music, but the songs i listen to are usually in that "formula" examples... Life is a highway (country), i gotta feeling (rap)... point being is that their all partially disco.

generally, i dont care for modern music that much either. rap, tecnho, hip hop, all give me headaches over a stretch of time (depending on volume and type). I do not have an ipod, or mp3 player, walkman, or even a radio really... just itunes with only about 100 songs on it, which is mostly the extra songs on the cds of my fav songs... i want to create a cd of my mixes, but i dont have enough songs yet =P

and im sorry, i have listened to the beatles, and other bands from a while ago, but i didn't care for them either (it might have something to do with my dad liking them.. a turnback for me).

but i agree, bandwagons should not be jumped on because it leads to conformity, and thats not entirely a good thing in the world.

and the map: 4/5, with an agd demo... the only bad part is the trigger, because it makes you have to go to the bottom or the side wall.

sigh.

Interesting sidenot; one of my friends mothers was an extra in quadrophenia.

No.

Because you are a fucking twat. I know that the bulk of mod culture is long gone; it doesn't matter. Considering you DO NOT KNOW ME, you can NOT jump to conclusions like that. I know wikipedia isn't exactly the most reliable source on the internet, and they've got some stuff wrong, but search it up or whatever. Wikipedia is a yank website so it obviously isn't going to be up to English standards - that's expected; it's American. I never said I always know best. You're just a stereotype monkey, like most people on this website.
And you link to wikipedia? And I'm and idiot?

Just go back to telling yourself you always know best, and keep me out of this, alright? I know I was all up in your shit to start with, but you're a fool, and I've not got the commitment to the argument. Cool?

Does anyone else enjoy how "fuck you flag" just rolls off the tongue?

Oh them. They were those beatnik rave faggots. Eh. If mintnut's leaving, I am too. So fuck you guys.

You are an idiot.

Anyway, have a look at this [en.wikipedia.org].Fuck I bet you don't even know what a mod is.
It's clear that you are a cause lost unto me. As you were.
When was this a civil right? Please, enlighten me.

Sucks...If you ever come to Toronto, go to kensington market, it's black market heaven.

Leaff, cool stuff, you mind linking me to a few of these bands? Thanks ;]

Ah, all right.

:3

OH YEAH MINTY'S A DUMBASS
This all coming from somebody who doesn't know me. Ahwell, believe what you like.

Oh, Leaff, I'm not saying all rap is bad. I'm saying the image of it is really bad. All the mainstream stuff is awful, but yes, I will have a listen to them.

I lost you at "I don't like Bob Dylan..." which is a shame. Always did like The Beastie Boys.

Bahahaha

If you say so. You're not a mod, but, ignorance is bliss. If you are incapable of seeing artistic merit in rap then stop caring about it. No one asked to hear your opinion on the subject. This is a map archive, not your own personal soapbox.
First off, I completely agree with you about the expand your taste thing. The day palemoon and sidke introduced me to j-core led me into all sorts of other wicked awesome stuff.
I don't think you're really saying this but I'm tired and kind of messed up. You seem to be saying that rap is overall bad. (If I'm wrong please correct me. >_>) It really upsets me when people say that because they almost always just base it on mainstream stuff, and almost every mainstream rap act out there that I have heard is terrible. Some underground stuff, however, can be really, really good. There is a lot of shit out there that you have to sift through to find it, but when you do find it's definitely worth it. Best example I can find of this is Nujabes, and he's really what got me in to hip hop and rap.
Some tracks you might wanna check out:
Beat Laments the World [youtube.com]
Blessing It [youtube.com]
Feather [youtube.com]
If I misread and you really aren't saying what I think you are, I am seriously sorry. >_<
But overall I think I agree with a lot of what you're saying.

i agree

with you in the description.

Oh yeah, karma.

There is a great music store down my road, sells some old stuff from the sixties. There's not a lot of varied stuff though, which is what I'm looking for.

Mintnut

You're probably as dumb as you seem. Rap is not good. I do not like popular music, and I am not going to. Unless it changes to something that is actually decent, I will not listen to it. It is SHIT. Oh no, I'm not a figurehead for a friendship group. I normally come up with all the ideas and stuff, but that doesn't mean I'm in charge. And yes, it is diminishing, not because I am in it (because I always have been), but because they are hanging out with the chavs.

Onto your last point. Yes, I am a mod. You know nothing about me, so you can not make that assumption. You are what you want to be, and you are who you are. I am a mod. It is a way of life. I follow that way of life. There's no "requirements" or anything, just listening to good music, wearing the clothes and following the lifestyle.

a great place to find new music is itunes, they recommend random bands every day and new songs they like, it's pretty good.

THE BEST PLACE to find good music is to find the coolest music store, not the big corporations, the ones at the corner of some random street you've never heard of. Just sieve through them and you'll find some cool stuff
Rap is good. Get with the program, popular music has no responsibility to be what you want it to be. The fact that you can't see past the immediate fashions and cliques of your peers is disturbing; not to mention that you seem to desire to be some kind of figurehead for your "friendship group" which is diminishing significantly - and for what reason, because you want it to, or because you aren't fun to be around (?)

60's nostalgia is all well and good, but the mods were of a time, and you most certainly are not one of their number. Grow up and do your own thing.

I like it

Fairly simple design, pretty cool to play.

I mostly listen to either softer rock like Band of Horses [myspace.com], The Decemberists [myspace.com], Weezer [myspace.com], or Grandaddy; or local ska bands like Moglee [myspace.com], Stop Drop n' Skank [myspace.com], and The Good Rats Radio [myspace.com].

Bleh

Probably a bit too insightful. Still, I'm not happy with alot of the music out there. Just walking down the road you can hear somebody blasting some rap shit out of their loudspeakers at full volume.

Insightful.

:D

Also

Please comment linking to some music you like. I'll have a listen to it.

On the down side.

I've forgotten my FUCKING APPLE PASSWORD. I was going to get Purple Haze by Jimi.
