2)100th map!!! WOOP!
3)2 years and 6 months of mapping and still going
4)Pretty sweet 3D tile effect, ay? (imagine the starting position is your ninja starting really close to the screen then walking away to the surface. See?)
5)This is a concept map; based upon the greatest game ever. Guess which game (hint in the title)

oh my god GRATZ

cool 3d effects

mmm...

but this was how I interpreted it; I didn't just create a map then attempt to link it back to the review.

I see what you mean about the tunnel element; however that would ruin the ultra-cool-3D-effect(c) :P
(plus the map plays just fine as it is imo)

Aphex

Taking things out of context like that, you could apply it to pretty much anything.

I guess your loose interpretation has afforded an originality that could catch the judges eyes, but to me this is one of the furthest from the review I've seen yet.

If I were a judge I'd dismiss this almost certainly, I guess that doesn't matter seeing as I'm not...

I just think you could do something much more in keeping with those building tiles and some kind of tunnel system below them. I can see a lot of potential with a concept like that in the context.

Based on Fallout?

Demo Data

@atob

1- "This map is a trip. A journey if you will"
-- Hence a concpet map

2- "softly through lonely halls"
-- An empty cave to stumble out of

3- "apparent just how frail your ninja’s hold on life is"

Passing through a distant nuclear cloud then facing the ruins of a city (with some dodgy creatures lurking)

4- "every room a trap waits to be sprung"
'and this great blue world of ours/ seems a house of leaves': and so each area is a room, for our world is a house ;)

5- "As you ascend through the twisted ruins, you realize that this journey is far from over. The story is only beginning"
You /both/ ascend and decend the ruins, as well as crossing from side to side (giving the "twisted" feel, though the nuclear blast helps that as well)
The story does not have a conclusive end; you enter a crumbling building (in search of your ______), and so the ninja's journey continues....

5/5

WHOA

this is daring. The aesthetic element of this map seems like it would overpower the gameplay, but you managed to not sacrifice any fun for the visual effect. The tiles took me a while to make sense of, but now I think they're awesome. The one-way thingy looks better in the thumb. Love the cramped gameplay areas. OMG happy 100th! I'll catch up on rce's later, I'm short on time. I'll stop talking now.

Congrats for 100th

Nice tiles.

Very nice concept.

But it really doesn't fit with the review. No corridors, no traps, and there's no real progressive assent (you climb out of the cave then /de/scend into the buildings).

Forcing the player to go through the cloud first also completely goes against the review's description.

As a map, alone, 3.5 rounded up.
As a map for the contest 2/5, imo.

yeah

always check your pockets first when you lose something ;)

No, wait.

I see it. I wasn't looking to hard.
But I'll look under tables, chairs, and silverware.

Woo!

Woo! 100 maps!

original tiles I made looked like this:

(they needed to be tweaked around for better gameplay)
