Description January 13, 1874

We've encountered an unexpected squall. Before we were able to tie down the boom, it swung and clapped Nathan over board. I can hear the sound of water trickling slowly changing to a roar in as it pours through the hull... I'm below deck, praying to God that he will protect us. As I glance through the deck hatch I see a large castle upon a precipice. I only hope that the Almightly will grant us safety as we attempt to reach it, the castle's lord will be our only hope. The water has broken through our hull- I can hear the sceams of the men above, we've crashed upon the roc-





This might be a bit risky, but... I'm starting my first real map pack. This will be unrelated to plot of the CV series, but some of the characters will remain. I am going to make this an adventure story complete with an first person perspective provided by a diary. Anyways to showcase this I am going to post the first level on here to provide a slight... 'taste' of the series.

I would appreciate help, I will be asking people to playtest separate levels so that no one person sees it all before everyone else. But this first level is open for comment.

alright, i'll start with looks. The cliff and castle look nice to me; the ship is fine; the wave needs a little work imo. Normally I don't fuss with looks but if you're making a mappack i assume you want everything to be as good as it can be? Here [nmaps.net] is a better example of how a wave should look. (Not as cool, but smaller.) [nmaps.net]

Gameplay
As I believe, many people do not enjoy having to wait very long for things to happen in maps. In this case, I'm talking about waiting for the drones to clear before you many gather any gold. If, for example, you had made it possible, yet difficult, for the player to gather the gold before the drones swarmed in (save the treasure before the water rushes it away!!(so it should still fit the theme, yes?)), it would offer the challenge to get the gold quickly or wait it out. Oh yeah, and i like the mines on the bottom but not the ones on the wave. Truth is, they are unnecessary and WILL annoy practically everyone, because they don't do too much for looks.
Otherwise i liked the awkward scramble up the cliff (seemed to fit the theme well) and I was happy with the gauss placement, etc.

I haven't played this yet, though; playing now :P And I'd be totally willing to playtest if you want my opinions (which may not always be best, but whatever, i'm offering).

My next map from my pirate series has waves in it, too. Big waves. Uh, oh.
