I'm pretty sure what Yahoozy did was to put missile turrets inside the tiles, but still able to see the ninja (just not able to fire at it). The turrets delay the chainguns so that they never fire until you touch one of the trapdoor switches, so that the turrets' vision is blocked by the trapdoor, and the chainguns are not delayed.

Worst art game ever imo, if I remember it correctly

Firstly, it tackles the issue in an extremely superficial way.
Secondly, I think that the players response to the stiumlus cannot be used to make even a vague moral judgement on the player, or the nature of video games in general.
The only clever aspect is the single play feature.
