Description For Ryzor, hopeully you can see the creativity.

This map was featured on 2008-06-12

Capita X. Tilesets like these are what Losttortuga does best. Brilliantly complex, useable, and absolutely beautiful, Capita X represents, basically, the ideal tileset. It represents an abstract city, a sun, and a tornado, rendered with typical Losttortuga beauty and practicality. The many nooks lend themselves to the placement of gold or doors, and the terrain, easy and enjoyable to use, is perfect. Losttortuga has made another excellent map. — incluye

but i suppose if it was, it wouldnt seem as mysterious.

Wow.

There were layers of bullshit genius in that argument I couldn't begin to comprehend.

I really like this

(I was gone in June, and never saw any features of that point)

Maybe bitesizeable...but I wouldn't feature it...

5aved

I would

thank you all not to drag me into your arguments, I've moved on to the whole pacifism scene. You should all just take a step back, appreciate each others viewpoints, maybe have a cup of tea or something? It's quite hard this pacifist lark.

ryzor

I would hardly say imperceptible, maybe subtle but certainly not the former. Mint was the one to start ranting, I mirrored that taking the piss not only out of him but also my own pedantic, (somewhat) elitist, idealistic nature.

Read it back in thread, perhaps when you've had a little sleep.

(I hate that I can't stop replying to these...)
but your sarcasm was imperceptible. Sarcasm can be detectable in subtle undertones, but I saw none in your posts (besides your assertion that it was all 'tongue in cheek'). It looks like you were all business.

And as to the pointlessness of this, I fully agree. However, as it is 12:30 here, I have nothing better to be spending my time on...hence, my posts, and presence in general on NUMA, or any internet-based form of entertainment.

lol.

Not only did you fail to sense the sarcasm/facetiousness of the 'arguments', Ryzor, but you tripped yourself up on a bucket full of steaming irony.

I was pretty much taking the piss out of myself there; you say 'pointless' I say 'yours too' ;)

He didn't win!

I said buuuuurn! To indicate my winning. Fecking latecomers to the whole argument scene.
However, astheoceansblue seems to have won. Congratulations, you get to claim your shiny prize...nothing!

And as a small pearl of wisdom to you, one who openly proclaims and flaunts their own intelligence is viewed by most to not be in posession of said intelligence.

haha

I was being tongue in cheek. So buuuuurn.

;-)

As for an answer:

Nart was something of an innovation within NED, same when considering DDAs and (to a lesser degree) race maps and zome of the more complicated/creative puzzles.

You might argue that Narts stand out more than the latter two as they can't be interacted with, but just because N is about action maps does that mean we should limit ourselves to just those?

Some of the authors here will glean a much greater inspiration and satisfaction from viewing high-standard Narts than playing a similar quality playable map and while my tastes are similar (in that I much prefer the playable over the static) I'm pretty sure NUMA is big enough to encompass any area of design that NED can be stretched to.

Rainbows made up of different shades of the same colour would be nowhere near as exciting, that's all.
I suppose humour is also horribly subjective, even when typed out so blatantly...

Lighten up, you goon :p

Soz'ard

I suppose I'm just not as intelligent as you, yes that must clearly be the reason; since you can't come up with a direct answer to any of my coherent arguments, it must be that i'm stupid...

mintnut

your pedantic rantings aren't really going to get anything anywhere. You do realize you can make a joke of things and still retain a degree of perceived intelligence, right?

I will agree to the point that *this* particular map isn't really stunning enough to stand alone as a feature ; I've seen many, many more effective stand-alones in my time here.

But of course, this is all entirely subjective, and while I may look at some of the featured/fav'd/bitten/w/e maps and cringe a little inside, I have to let myself know that just because my tastes are defined by a greater intelligence than most I can't teach the world to sing in perfect harmony unless I subscribe to a popular verse and melody with the grand and inevitable result of lowering my standards to such a point that hope would be lost for all.

I couldn't possibly do that to the people.

That, if you can't tell, was tongue in cheek. Mostly.
Yes, that's right, the prosecution and discrimination because of someone's race, has a whole lot to do with whether or not unplayable maps should be featured.

The problem that I have, is that N-arts and tilesets are just something you look at for a second or two, whereas a map has to be played to be understood, involves some amount of participation by the player. What's the point in featuring this as the pinnacle of numa's creative forces, if most people are just going to take 1 look and move on. Losttortuga has actually made some really fun maps out of some of his tilesets, which are a great deal more interesting than the 1 glance at this I took.
What good reason could any of you possibly give for saying that tilesets can't be featured? It's like racism.
a lot more than your tilesets.

OH WOW

OH WOW

Yeah

But out of all of Losttortuga's tileset's this one is so pedestrian.

It just seems like most of the feature writers are going through certain authors mapographies for inspiration, solely. Different strokes I guess.
There's more to NUMA than just action maps, you know.

Yeah

This is really getting ridiculous.

<---Noob.
I can really get behind the linear nature of this tileset. I also very much enjoy the interwoven look you gave the lower portion of the map...everything fits. As usual, it is well-adapted for gameplay in all aspects, esp. with the "sun" being a potential strategic shield from well placed lasers or chainguns. At times your tilesets do get repetative, but this one is almost uncharacteristic of you. I can still tell that it's your work, but it's unique in the vast collection of your TS's. Good job. 4.
